Jonny Weir is currently a Junior at Boston University’s School of Management. He spent his entire adolescence in North Reading, Massachusetts, a small suburb north of Boston. In 2007, Jonny graduated from North Reading High School where he was a member of the soccer team, track team, the Student Council, and Vice President of the National Honors Society.
Upon arriving at Boston University, Jonny began forming many new friendships and exploring his options within the University. During the spring semester, he and his fellow business team members created a video for a Company Analysis Project that ranked among the top three within the School of Management’s freshman class. Jonny considered many different concentrations over the past two years and realized that he wanted a job with a lot of freedom to be creative. From there, Jonny decided that starting his own business would be a fantastic opportunity to pursue his interest in fashion and retail, and decided to concentrate in Entrepreneurship
During the summer following his freshman year, Jonny worked as a sales associate at Nordstrom. Upon returning to school in the fall, he continued his work in retail and worked at The Tannery, a small boutique in Cambridge. Through these work experiences, Jonny developed many transferable skills while collaborating and communicating with customers, receiving feedback from managers, and developing long-term relationships with clientele. Jonny is currently an intern at Stel’s, a small retail store located on Boston’s famous Newbury Street. Here, Jonny works closely with Stel’s co-oweners to gain a better understanding of how they run their business and how the fashion industry works.
Working closely with many different types of customers has helped Jonny develop skills in negotiation and communication. With these skills in mind, Jonny has taken on the role of mediator within his team. Over the course of the semester, he hopes to maintain a comfortable environment for all of his teammates to work in to aid in team efficiency and help to form long-lasting friendships.
In his free time, Jonny enjoys going to see foreign films, visiting consignment stores, and practicing photography. He hopes to spend the spring semester taking language and liberal arts classes in Madrid to fulfill his Spanish Language minor. Upon graduating from Boston University, Jonny wants to move to New York and work in the fashion and retail industry before starting his own small business.
